not as planned, but it was perfect
Our son, Christian, finally arrived on July 22, 12-days overdue. The birth was nothing as we have planned but nonetheless it was perfect.
I was scheduled for an induction on the morning of July 20. But, like how it always happens, I started having contractions around the midnight. So, the induction was cancelled and I was told to “wait for stronger contractions”. I thought my contractions were strong enough, so we called Richmond Hospital around 11pm but was diverted to BC Women’s. We waited and waited and finally after 4 hours we were seen by a doctor and was told to go home because I was only 1 cm dilated.
Went home, rested and contractions did get stronger. They were borderline unbearable around 3pm so we called Richmond Hospital again and was admitted into Labor and Delivery at 5pm. Contractions were 5 minutes apart, pain scale of 5, and I was 2 cm dilated. We waited and waited, and watched Hell’s Kitchen on TV (Ramsey is not as bad when you’re having contractions). They broke my water at 8pm to speed things up. I was 4cm dilated. Then, around 11pm…as my contractions got stronger, Chou-chou’s heartrate would dip. It got to the point where an emergency C-Section was the only option left. So, off they wheeled me and my tank of laughing gas to the OR. That laughing gas was amazing!
I was prepped and cut and Chou-chou was born at 1:45am.
Being a C-section, we were supposed to come home on the second day. But Chou-chou had jaundice and had to be placed under phototherapy…the yellowness didn’t go away so he was under the blue light for another day…and another day…Apparently, there’s some incompatibility issue with my blood and his. Finally, after being under the blue light for 4 days, and not to mention the every-2-hour-on-the-dot feeding and changing and constant-monitoring-so-he-doesn’t-pull-off-the-eye-patch, he’s well enough to come home.
So, here we are…at home…happily resting…doing laundry…loading up dishwasher…feeding…changing diapers…
We took a lot of photos, will update them shortly.
