Food for thought
Mother’s Day dinner last night at Mom’s was one of the least enjoyable dinner I’ve had since becoming pregnant. Let me see, first off, lamb – I can’t eat lamb. Then prawns, shrimps and crabs – I can only eat a little bit. Hard rice – my stomach’s already being squished and shoved to one side. Oily, bland onion soup, fruit salad that looks more like fruit soup…No thanks!
So I ate whatever I could, 1/2 the soup, 2 piece of each prawn, shrimp and crab, a big heap of spinach and 1/2 cup of the hard rice, and washed everything down a Diet Coke. The Diet Coke was probably the only thing that I truly enjoyed. As soon as I had a bite of the rice I knew it was a mistake…but there wasn’t anything else I could eat.
And it seems that many people don’t really care about a pregnant woman’s need to follow a set eating routine. I mean, you tell me dinner’s at 7′ish, but we didn’t get to eat till way after 8:30pm. Hello people, I have a 10pm bedtime!
Needless to say, I was up all night with stomach-aches. I was hungry but my stomach was in too much pain to take anything more than milk…
So, I wonder, if it’s ever ok for a pregnant lady to bring her own food to a dinner party?
I mean, if I could, I would have brought my own rice, chicken veggie stir-fry and fresh strawberries. I don’t care if my chicken veggie stir-fry is not as “WOW” as the vibrant colorful tiger prawns, crab or shrimp or that mountain of grilled lamp chops. I don’t care if my rice looks mushy. At least I know my dinner is not going to keep me awake till 5am with stomach-pains.
