New Body, New Clothes, New Me
Mom took Jason and me out for some maternity-clothes shopping at Thyme Maternity on Sunday. I must admit, it’s been awhile since I felt so good in a fitting room. The first thing I tried on was the light brown cords with the wide elastic waistband that goes over the tummy. They look ridiculous, but they’re the best pair of pants I’ve ever tried on in my entire life. No more sucking in tummy to look flatter and no more tippy-toe to look taller and slimmer in the mirror.
Finally, clothes that acknowledges my tummy and boobs. I was trying on dresses, pants, shirts in colors and cuts that I’ve learned to stay away from all these years: red, fushia, baby pink, violet, tummy-hugging… Then, I saw a funny-looking pillow in the corner of the fitting room with a waistbelt on it.
Ah-ha! So this is the pillow that everyone is telling me about!
I put it on under the shirt I was trying and reality finally kicked in. I am going to get bigger and a lot rounder.
I dragged one of our empty suitcases into the bedroom last night and I went through my entire walk-in closet, dumping in clothes that I won’t be wearing for a long while. Skinny white jeans, hip-hugging ultra low-rise flare and definitely-made-for-4-inch-heels Guess jeans, body-fitting knit sweaters, tailored button shirts, short tees…
The next time I see/wear these old clothes, I would be a Mommy already. Let’s just hope I will fit in them again then…
